Nature’s Candy – Starring The California Raisins!

As a kid, I never bought into the idea that raisins were, in fact, “nature’s candy”.  To ten-year-old me, they were some scary dried-up fruit.  But as I’ve grown older I’ve warmed to the “nature’s candy” idea, and I’ve certainly gained an appreciation for their raisin-representatives, The California Raisins.   Today, I’m going to share examples of packaging featuring these musical mascots.

Seth Green’s Vintage Butterfinger Bar and a Gold One Too!

Back in the Fall of 2009, Nestle ran an unusual promotion for its Butterfinger line involving a Circle-K exclusive vintage Butterfinger, a solid gold Butterfinger, and a distraught Seth Green asking, “Dude, where’s my Butterfinger bar?”

1977’s Yours Chewly!

Back in the mid-1970’s, the Ward Candy Company, best known at the time for brands like Bit-O-Honey, Goobers and Chunky, put out a lesser known brand of taffy-like candy called Yours Chewly.

Kit Kats Fit For A Queen!

It’s been quite a year for Great Britain.  They just wrapped up a successful Summer Olympics, and back in June they celebrated the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.    For those that don’t know, a Jubilee celebration marks years on the throne, and Queen Elizabeth celebrated her 60th this year.

Quite a number of consumer products reflected the Jubilee, but there were a number that also celebrated the coronation, six decades earlier.  Today, I’m going to showcase 1953’s Coronation Kit Kat, and 2012’s “Brit Kat” that celebrated the Diamond Jubilee.

Mars’ 2-to-Go and 4-to-Go — Mighty Big Wrappers!

Today I’ll be covering a group of currently-available wrappers from the Mars company; the 2-to-Go selections.

As I’ve shared in the past, though I focus most of my efforts on vintage candy packaging, I do like to keep up with what’s currently available, and get an example of each new brand and design that comes out.  But there are lots of little variations that I’ll see, and I don’t always decide to get them all.  At first, I didn’t feel the need to pick up the 2-to-Go wrappers, but I finally decided they warranted saving, and documenting.

The Big Dig of 2008! Or, The Craziest Place I Ever Turned up a Vintage Skittles Pack.

Back on August 12th and 13th of 2008 (four years ago this week), I set about to try to find an unintentional time-capsule I’d buried in my grandmother’s backyard, some 25 years earlier.  It was a fun two-day adventure that I chronicled on the pages of my Flickr, and though the focus was not candy (there would be some involved), I thought it would be fun to re-post the tale here – on the anniversary of the dig.
