A Few Spooky Kit Kat Goodies!

As we rapidly approach Halloween (it’s here tomorrow!), I realize that it’s been a pretty packed month on the site but it’s gone really fast.  I thought I would have trouble filling 31 posts with nothing but Halloween candy content, but as it turns out I’ve got more than I had room to post about.  Guess I’ll have to save a few things for next year.

For today’s post, I’ve selected the Kit Kat items from my collection that were specifically produced for the Halloween holiday.  Kit Kat is one of the all-time classic confectionery brands, and I’ve got a fun selection of pieces to share.

More Halloween Fun From M&M’s!

Earlier this month, I pointed out how M&M’s had finally started doing holiday-thematic packaging in standard-sized packs, with their Candy Corn M&M’s lineup.  Today, I’m going to share a pair of their new Halloween-themed 3.4oz boxes as well as a couple fun vintage items you have probably never seen before.

Fleer’s 1993 Halloween Offerings – Starring Mr. Bones!

Back in the summer of 1993, the Fleer company was owned by Marvel Comics, and they were promoting their upcoming Halloween lineup.   For today’s post, I’ve selected a fun Fleer Halloween trade ad from that year and I’m going to share a few highlights from it — putting a special focus on Fleer’s classic novelty candy container treat — Mr. Bones!

Vintage Candy Industry Halloween Trade Ads!

As a candy packaging historian, a resource I’ve found to be invaluable are vintage candy industry trade periodicals.  With names like National Candy Wholesaler and Candy Marketer, these magazines were subscribed to by people who worked inside the candy business and industry.

Because of their target audience, the ads in trade magazines were decidedly different than the ones that targeted the end consumer.  These are ads that most folks outside of the candy industry have rarely seen.

Today, I’ve selected a number of these cool vintage industry trade ads that were focused on Halloween seasonal offerings.  So let’s get to it!

The Mystery of Willy Wonka’s Halloween Ghostopper and More!

Every once in a while I come across something that blows my candy historian-and-collector mind.  Such was the case with a trio of digital files that recently landed in my inbox; files that reveal unused designs for a series of Willy Wonka Halloween-themed products from 1997.

To the best of my knowledge, these packages were never put into production and these designs have never been published anywhere before.  Because of that, today’s post is an exciting CollectingCandy.com Halloween exclusive and world premiere!

Wacky Wednesdays Double-Feature – PLOTS & BOTS!

Welcome back to another edition of CollectingCandy.com’s Wacky Wednesdays!   Since we’re exactly one week away from Halloween, I put together a special double-feature for today’s entry.

I’m reaching back to 2009 to pull a piece from the first set of Halloween Wacky Packages Postcards while also selecting a parody from the 2012 Halloween set that just came out last week.   Both of today’s Wacky pieces are a parody of Tootsie’s DOTS candy – BOTS from the 2009 Halloween set, and PLOTS from the 2012 series.

A Pair of my Favorite New Halloween Offerings for 2012!

Every year, candy companies release versions of their products in Halloween-themed packaging.  Sometimes those designs return year after year and become seasonal classics, while other times the designs get refreshed each year.  When a company does a Halloween-themed version of a candy that they’ve never done before, I always take notice.  Today, I’d like to highlight two of my favorites that are brand-new this year:  Mike and Ike Mummy’s Mix and Angry Birds Halloween Edition.

A Peek Into Halloween’s Past: Store Displays from 1969!

Today I’m going to step sideways a bit, and rather than looking at a specific piece of Halloween packaging or marketing, I’m going to share a series of photos of Halloween retail store displays in 1969.  I’m posting this to serve as a fun little peek into Halloween’s past.
