Back in March of last year, I wrote about Rowntree UK’s nostalgic 70’s favorite, the Texan bar. What I didn’t know at the time was that around that same period in Rowntree’s history, their South African branch produced a different bar, but with a similar name and thematic, the Tex bar. It featured a pretty cool wrapper, and I thought it would be fun one-off for today.
Since 2009, I’ve had an annual tradition of taking a look back at my hobby by assembling a collage of some of my favorite pieces from the previous twelve months. Back in 1988 Warner-Lambert, the company that created Bubblicious bubble gum a decade earlier, released Candilicious. A fruit chew confection that I’m guessing was similar to Starburst, Candilicious featured colorful packaging and a name/logo combination that was clearly inspired by the success of the Bubblicious brand.
I returned to New York last night after spending nearly three weeks away visiting friends and family for the holidays. While away I had planned to post regularly to this site, but I have to admit that it was tough to squeeze CollectingCandy time in while spending time with loved ones, and the loved ones won out. Now that I’m back, I’m ready to share a lot of great new (and old) candy stuff with you. I figured I’d start back with something from a far off land.
I’ve written about my New Zealand collector-pal Steve Williams before in a previous post and I’ve also written about Sweetmans Zombie Chews before, so some of today’s entry may sound familiar. Recently, Steve set out to gather the latest range of Zombie Chews product for me. Scouring a number of his local stores he was able to procure the goodies shown in today’s article and ultimately ship them to me here in the USA. The package he sent included a few Zombie Chews flavors I’d never seen as well as a brand extension I’d never come across before: Zombie Chewy Tape.
It’s New Year’s Eve and I thought it was a good time to mix it up a bit with a video greeting. I hope to incorporate video content to the site in 2013, where it will allow me to present topics that can’t otherwise be covered without the use of video.

It’s Christmas Eve and here at my mother’s house that means we are preparing things in anticipation of our big Christmas Eve dinner. I’ve temporarily cleared a place at the dinner table to write today’s post before everyone arrives, and the smell of home-baked bread is delightfully filling the air.
For today’s post, I’m going to share a set of Christmas-themed Dairy Milk wrappers from my collection that were released by Cadbury’s New Zealand branch in the 1990’s. They feature fun Christmastown scenes like Rudi Reindeer and a Skating Santa.
For decades the company Beich’s, also known as Bike’s, was one of the larger confectioners on the candy landscape. Among many long-running products, they produced Laffy Taffy, which is still produced today by the Nestle company under their Wonka brand. But for decades one of their seasonal mainstays was their classic Beich’s Santa Claus candy.
