The history of confection is rich with brands that have had the briefest flashes of life and others that have withstood the test of time. But even some stalwarts of the candy isle that stuck around for generations eventually fade into sweet obscurity. Such is the case with the topic of today’s post – Tom’s Full Dinner.
It’s been quite a while since I last did a Wacky Wednesdays column here on the site but a recent find meant that it was time. After searching for several years for a Regal Crown Sour Cherry wrapper, the basis for this Wacky sticker, I finally tracked one down. Today, I am excited to feature a parody from the 16th and final 1970’s Wacky Packages series – Regal Clown Cherry Bombs!
I recently had the opportunity to take possession of a really neat group of unused vintage product packaging, all from the 1962-1963 period. Originally saved by a salesman from the Marathon printing company, they were used to showcase the kinds of packages his company could provide to clients. Among these 50-year-old package samples was a fantastic assortment of six candy boxes made to hold a variety of treats from the Kraft Candy Kitchens!
Happy New Year everyone! It’s my pleasure to kick off CollectingCandy.com’s 2014 coverage with the world premiere of a wrapper that has not only been on my want list for a long time but is also one that I’m confident will take readers by surprise. Today I get to share a piece that until recently had evaded my most intense of collector searches and safaris. All the way back from 1969, it is the wrapper for Nabisco’s “The Wild One”!

Before I get to today’s content, a brief personal message: I’m spending my holiday safe, warm and surrounded by family and friends that I love. As I look out into the world I’m reminded how very fortunate I am to be doing so. I count my blessings because of all of these people, and they remind me why I enjoy this season so much. I’m often delighted by the surprises that my interest in confection brings. From learning about vintage products that I never knew existed to looking on a current store shelf and being shocked at what I’m seeing. It was a wonderful case of the latter when I recently learned that Life Savers had produced a new holiday seasonal flavor, Candy Cane Peppermint!
Last week I mentioned my discovery of the Tootsie Roll Christmas Two-Packs, but an equally exciting discovery I made this season was finding this trio of holiday-themed Tootsie Pop Drops packs!
I’ve often talked about how I love oddball or specialty flavor spin-offs of classic brands. From fruit-flavored Milk Duds to cinnamon hot Dots, there’s something I find particularly compelling about these releases, and I’m always pleased when new ones come out. So I’m understandably excited that Spangler has released a whole assortment of specialty Dum-Dum holiday flavor pops for this year’s Christmas season!
Every year Whitman’s releases their standard chocolate bars with all kinds of holiday-themed package designs. Occasionally, they’ll utilize licensed characters or content for those designs and for 2013 they tapped the Peanuts holiday classic, A Charlie Brown Christmas, as their muse.
Always an enjoyable topic to address are the holiday releases for M&M’s. Just a few days ago I mentioned the new holiday flavor release of M&M’s Gingerbread and today I’d like to showcase the new Christmas-themed theater-sized boxes for a pair of M&M’s classic offerings.
