A topic for a Tuesday – Take 5 from Hershey.

Hershey's Take 5 standard wrapper 2005-2011

First released in 2005, Hershey’s Take 5 bar was quite a different bar for Hershey.  Incorporating a great mix of ingredients, most notably a pretzel base, it’s been a favorite of mine ever since.

Relatively young in terms of collecting it, the Take 5 has nonetheless provided a number of fun variants to catch over the years.  I’ll be covering all that I know about them today.

Amurol Innovation – Nutty Novelty Gum from 1995

Amurol Confections - Wrigley - Innovation trade ad - December 1995

I’ve spoken before about Amurol, the division of Wrigley responsible for things like Big League Chew and Bubble Tape among many other fun products.  Though they started as a sugarless gum company, they ended up becoming the novelty arm of their larger Wrigley parent.  The amount of novelty gum products they came up with in the 1980’s and 1990’s rivaled that of the established novelty gum manufacturers.  In fact, 1995 saw the release of a particular fun range from them.

When Mikes and Ikes get competitive. A fun new Just Born Promotion!

Though I mostly focus on all-things-vintage with regard to candy, I still do collect and celebrate current candy packaging and at their related promotions.  Yesterday, my brother informed me that he had found a fun new promotion on the packages of Mike and Ikes.   When he showed me images of the boxes, I thought for a moment someone had met a celebrity and had them autograph the boxes, but I was wrong.

A favorite from the archives – Cadbury’s Amazin’ Raisin Bar.

UK - Cadbury's Amazin' Raisin bar wrapper - 1970's

It’s a short post today, as I’m dedicating most of my time this weekend to reorganizing my unfiled wrappers and boxes.  Since launching last month, I’ve been reminded of the areas of my archive that need some administrative attention.  With that in mind, today is all about a beautiful wrapper from the UK – the Amazin’ Raisin.

Phoenix Candy Company’s Candy-and-a-Toy – Flash Gordon

The Phoenix Candy Company is best known for their product Now & Later, but during the 1960’s and 1970’s, Phoenix also sold quite a few series of Candy-and-a-Toy boxed candy.  Today I’ll be covering their 1978 release, based on the King Features property Flash Gordon.

A few new CurlyWurly bits.

Today I’d like to update my coverage of Cadbury’s CurlyWurly, based on a pair of new acquisitions and a deep search into my own files that turned up a wrapper I hadn’t found when I did my previous CurlyWurly article.

Wacky Wednesdays – Rotsa Root

This week I’m once again having my Tuesday column lead into Wacky Wednesdays.  I don’t think that’s going to become a habit, but sometimes it is going to make sense and when it does, I’ll go with it.

Topps’ Lotsa Loot – Money, Money, Money, Money – Candy-Money!

I’m not sure about everyone else, but when I was a kid it was always fun playing with pretend money.  Be it Monopoly or play money or the occasional odd foreign coin that would find their way into my hands, I was good for all of it.  Even when it was presented to me as an edible treat.   Before you would eat it, it was a secret treasure.

While commonly encountered as foil-covered chocolate coins, the concept of candy served up in a form appealing to the numismatist (a coin collector) is a recurring theme even in non-chocolate candy.   The Topps company produced at least two novelty candy coin offerings that I’ve come across, and today I’ll be covering my favorite of them:  Lotsa Loot.

Butterfingers and Bart – Nestle’s Affair with The Simpsons

The Simpsons and the Butterfinger – the connection may not be as obvious as it once was, but during the early days and in fact the first decade of their existence, The Simpsons were inexorably tied to the crispity, crunchety, peanut-buttery treat.

It’s an Earth-Shaking Sunday with Swell’s Earth Shaker Bubble Gum.

Couldn’t decide what to talk about today, so I put my hand in the grab-bag and came out with a rather unusual piece from Philadelphia Chewing Gum’s Swell subsidiary – Earth Shaker bubble gum.
