The last couple years I’ve been impressed with Necco’s seasonal offerings. For a company that’s been around over a century, they’re finding ways to bring cool contemporary products to market . In 2012 they blew me away with their Skybar Zombie Food, and this year they’ve created a tasty treat in a particularly groovy package with their Red Hot Cinnamon Batwing Necco Wafers!
New for 2013: Necco’s Red Hot Cinnamon Batwing Wafers!
From 1972: Topps’ 250-Piece Bubble Gum Haunted House “Door-Knobber” Halloween Package!
While coming up with a vintage Halloween candy item to cover today, I recalled a fun piece of Topps bubble gum packaging that I picked up recently known as a “door-knobber”. In the process of researching the origins of that package, I came across a few other neat items that I’m excited to share.
New for 2013: Halloween Sugar Babies Monster Boxes!
During the Halloween season each year I (along with my recruited friends and family) scour store shelves to see what special packaging has been designed for the holiday. There are many instances of seasonal items never showing up in the places I shop, but landing in the locales where my gracious candy agents are hunting.
This year, I expanded the search to online candy retailers – and I was surprised at how much is produced that doesn’t seem to hit mainstream retail at all. Such was the case with the topic of today’s post: Halloween Sugar Babies monster boxes!
M&M/Mars’ 1993 Halloween Stars Promotional Brochure – And The Last Halloween TV special!
Back in 1993, M&M/Mars built a seasonal promotion around a group of animated characters from a television special called The Last Halloween. Today I thought it would be fun to take a look at that brochure and maybe a little of that old TV special, too.
New for 2013: Mike and Ike Vampire Variety joins Last Year’s Mummy’s Mix!
Last year Just Born introduced a terrific Halloween seasonal edition of Mike and Ike called Mummy’s Mix, which quickly became one of my favorites for 2012. And while that was a big hit, Just Born didn’t rest on their laurels as this year Mummy’s Mix has been joined by their all-new Halloween offering: Mike and Ike Vampire Variety!
Candy, Count Chocula and Halloween (Oh My!)
Count Chocula: he’s one of the edgy rock stars of the cereal mascot world and because of that I thought he was also the perfect spokesman to feature for a Countdown To Halloween post. And just to be clear; I’m not branching out into cereal here on the site – our laser focus remains on candy – and that includes today’s coverage.
That being said, I’d like to look into some of the curious candy connections that Count Chocula has made over the years, with a few other Monster Cereal tidbits thrown in for good measure.
New for 2013: Black Forest Halloween Gummy Bears (and Vampires and Werewolves, too!)
Today I’d like to share a few items from Black Forest, a company best known for their classic Gummy Bears. Black Forest released a fun new boxed Halloween edition of their Gummy Bears for 2013 and I’ll take a look at that along with some pretty awesome items they first released during last year’s spooky season.
Willy Wonka’s Halloween Bag Line Brochure from 1984!
Willy Wonka is a huge brand name in the candy business today but it might be the 1980’s when the brand experienced its first golden age of success with new introductions like Nerds. The 80’s are also when non-Wonka products that had been around for a decade already were brought into the Willy Wonka family with Wacky Wafers, Bottle Caps, and Gobstoppers receiving full Wonka branding.
Today, I’m going to look at a promotional brochure that represents one of the early efforts to tie those formerly non-Wonka products together for the Halloween holiday and under the Willy Wonka brand.
New for 2013: Jelly Belly’s Disney Vile Villains!
New from Jelly Belly this Halloween season are a striking quartet of jelly bean packages released under the branding of Vile Villains!
Brach’s Halloween Ads from the 1960’s!
Today we’re going to jump back in time to take a look at a trio of neat 1960’s Halloween magazine ads for Brach’s candies.
