[Spoiler: Peanut Butter Boppers are featured prominently in Stranger Things Season 5, so Nature Valley unexpectedly revived the brand earlier today for an online exclusive sale and it promptly sold out!]
Fourteen years ago, I shared the very first imagery of Peanut Butter Boppers online via an old trade ad. Before that, you couldn’t find a single image of this brand anywhere on the internet.
Since that original post, I’ve added both an original vintage Boppers wrapper (seen here) and an original box to my archives.
As someone who’s helped pioneer the archiving and preservation of CPG brand history, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the ripple effects of that work. I feel as though I’ve helped build the foundation for the subsequent nostalgia around it to soar.
For nostalgia to truly resonate, it has to exist beyond myth. It needs real, accessible touchstones. Through my archival efforts, I’ve helped create thousands of those reference points that never before existed.
Seeing this long-forgotten snack brand rediscovered through Stranger Things—and unexpectedly relaunched by Nature Valley—feels like a fitting full-circle moment. Especially considering that my 1984 Eggo Waffle box served as the original reference for all of Season One’s Eggo props. 🤩
What a ride Stranger Things has been. And as this iconic story approaches its final chapter, I’m raising a glass to the many talented creatives who brought it to life.
