A Sampling of Russell Stover’s Halloween Offerings!

Posted on October 19, 2012 by Jason Liebig

Russell Stover isn’t the company I think of when I think of Halloween candy.  They’re the boxed-chocolates company, so if anything, I associate them with Valentine’s Day, and somewhat with Christmas.  Even so, Russell Stover has been producing Halloween offerings … Continue reading →

A tale of two cotton candy cereals I purchased ove A tale of two cotton candy cereals I purchased over the weekend!

So I LOVE a good cotton candy-flavored treat! They are among my absolute favorite things in the world. A cotton candy Blizzard from Dairy Queen is my #1 and a cotton candy Oreo is easily #2. Those two products make me gleeful.

But it seems it’s a tough flavor to culinarily express with that preferred intensity, due to factors that I suspect a food scientist could better articulate.

Suffice it to say, while that Blizzard and Oreo scream cotton candy goodness, these two cereals, like the cotton candy-flavor Cap’n Crunch the preceded them, don’t rise to the fluffy occasion. The cotton candy flavor is muted at best, but virtually non-existent at worst.

To give some grace, I only tested with my normal “unsweetened with vanilla” almond milk and that may be a mitigating factor on the muting of the cotton candy flavoring. I’d be curious to try with a 2% dairy milk, and I suspect that could bring up the flavor a bit more.

But even without a pronounced cotton candy-ness to them, both of these cereals remain tasty. I just don’t know that I’d have identified much cotton candy flavor if they weren’t labeled as such.

So, a successful (to my tastebuds, anyway) cotton candy cereal remains my carnival-flavored white whale…
