Circa 1970! Back in the glory days of gumball mach Circa 1970! Back in the glory days of gumball machines, the LEAF company was king.

They had talented artists illustrating their vending insert card art and they put quite a lot of creativity into ideating myriad themes for what were essentially the same fundamental gumballs - offered over and over.

Not that they didn’t also do some different flavors and textures, because they did. But mostly it was the same stuff.

And sometimes, as in this case, they just printed a different theme right on the gumballs themselves. Here we have Leaf’s “Generation Gap” with funny little cartoons and lingo definitions printed on the ball.

Example: “Bread, what your parents eat and you spend.”

This groovy photo comes from a LEAF salesman’s kit, used to help showcase the various products that they offered at the time. While old vending insert cards remain in collections, getting to see the gumballs themselves is a special occasion, and I hope you enjoy this glimpse into a moment of our confectionery past.
