{"id":8568,"date":"2013-01-27T16:49:06","date_gmt":"2013-01-27T21:49:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.collectingcandy.com\/wordpress\/?p=8568"},"modified":"2013-01-27T16:49:06","modified_gmt":"2013-01-27T21:49:06","slug":"heides-mexican-hats","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/collectingcandy.com\/wordpress\/?p=8568","title":{"rendered":"Heide&#8217;s Mexican Hats!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-8569\" alt=\"CC_Mexican Hats TITLE PLATE\" src=\"http:\/\/www.collectingcandy.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/CC_Mexican-Hats-TITLE-PLATE.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"430\" srcset=\"http:\/\/collectingcandy.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/CC_Mexican-Hats-TITLE-PLATE.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/collectingcandy.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/01\/CC_Mexican-Hats-TITLE-PLATE-300x125.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, I received an e-mail from a CollectingCandy.com reader named Jeff, asking me about a candy box that he&#8217;d remembered from the early 1990&#8217;s but couldn&#8217;t find any information for online.\u00a0 He believed that what he was remembering was a box for Heide&#8217;s Mexican Hats and I&#8217;m inclined to agree with him.\u00a0 With this little mystery in mind I thought it was the perfect time to dedicate a post to the topic.\u00a0 So today I&#8217;ll be showcasing the trio of Mexican Hats candy boxes I have in my collection.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->I first added a Mexican Hats box to my collection back in the spring of 2009, and I was truly excited to find it when I did.\u00a0 I hadn&#8217;t seen a box or a photo of one since I was a kid, and I probably would have forgotten what they looked like save for the fact that it was the basis of one of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collectingcandy.com\/wordpress\/?p=5266\" target=\"_blank\">my favorite Wacky Packages stickers &#8211; Mexican Hats &#8211; 7oz candy box &#8211; Gummi Bear beach towel mail-away &#8211; 1985<\/p><\/div>\n<p>I think it&#8217;s pretty clear that Mexican Hats was the box that my reader Jeff remembered.\u00a0 It makes me wonder if the background box color was changed to yellow sometime in the early 1990&#8217;s &#8211; it&#8217;s certainly possible.\u00a0 It also makes it another box I&#8217;d love to track down, if it exists in a different 1990&#8217;s color scheme.<\/p>\n<p>Based on what I&#8217;ve determined with Heide packaging, chances are there was at least one additional box Mexican Hats packaging design used in the later 1970&#8217;s not included here &#8211;
