Welcome back to another edition of CollectingCandy.com’s Wacky Wednesdays!\u00a0 This week, we’ll be looking at an entry from 1974’s Wacky Packages Series 7 — Soggy Babies.<\/p>\n

A parody of Sugar Babies, Soggy Babies includes a fun little Wacky character illustration, and the character interacting with the candy (these are my favorite kinds).\u00a0 Added to that, they make the interesting choice to do a take-off on the M&M’s slogan of the time by invoking “Melts in your mouth…and in your hand!”.\u00a0\u00a0 Here’s a close-up view of the sticker art:<\/p>\n

Wacky Packages Series 7 – Soggy Babies – 1974<\/p><\/div>\n

Throughout the 1970’s, Sugar Babies were produced by the confectionery division of Nabisco Foods, so packages included the familiar Nabisco corner logo (which became “Mushy” on the Wacky).\u00a0 Here’s an early 70’s Sugar Babies pack from my collection that matches up with the Soggy Babies parody quite well:<\/p>\n

Nabisco – Sugar Babies – Laugh ‘N Tell Series candy package – early 1970’s<\/p><\/div>\n

As you can see, this pack wrapper is a pre-UPC era version, and happens to be from a series called “Laugh ‘N Tell”.\u00a0 Laugh ‘N Tell, and several of the other Nabisco on-pack promotions from this time are some of the exceptions of American candy packaging that encouraged consumers to seek out and and collect them, as they were a “set of 24”.\u00a0\u00a0 I think that’s pretty cool.<\/p>\n
