For the past five years, I’ve made it an annual tradition to gather together some of my favorite “collector acquisitions” from the previous twelve months in the form of a visual collage.\u00a0 While it is by no means a comprehensive list, it is meant to be broad enough to reveal many of my hobby high points from the previous year.\u00a0 So make the jump to check out my year-in-collecting highlights from 2014.<\/p>\n

For me, one of the enjoyable aspects of being a collector is how pieces in a collection can serve as a scrapbook of personal times and touchstones.\u00a0 That’s certainly the way I look at these annual collages.\u00a0 I can point to each item and recall a story of how it came to join my collection or how it changed my understanding and appreciation of a certain brand or aspect of confectionery history.\u00a0\u00a0 Even better, in some cases these represent new acquaintances made and friendships forged.<\/p>\n

So while I assemble these annual collages to share my hobby with anyone that might be interested, they are as much made for me to be able to look back and fit things into my own personal history.<\/p>\n

Without further ado, here is my “Year in Collecting: 2014”:<\/p>\n

As you might expect, most of 2014’s highlights are pieces of candy packaging, though I have included a few non-confectionery items.\u00a0\u00a0 Most notable among the non-candy items are a 1960’s Chips Ahoy! cookie package, a vintage JC Penny Super Denim Jeans Super Dennis robot pocket tag, a 1970’s Keebler Animal Crackers cookie box and a 1970’s Laura Scudder’s Mini-Tacos snack bag (some of these I’d been searching for, for a decade).<\/p>\n

Among the candy items presented in my 2014 Year in Collecting are a number of items I’ve not shared publicly yet on this site (or anywhere else), so those stand as tasty previews for when they eventually become part of a CollectingCandy.com article.\u00a0\u00a0 With that in mind, I’ll reserve any additional comments on those pieces until they make their full appearance here.<\/p>\n

As has been my tradition, now that I’ve shared this years’ look back, I’ll include those from previous years, starting with the most recent and working back.\u00a0 Here they are:<\/p>\n
