After posting about 7-Eleven’s name brand candy offerings<\/a> yesterday, I thought it would be fun to follow-up with a showcase of the groovy Slurpee-branded gum products that were on shelves a little over a decade ago.\u00a0 Returning from a successful dig through my archives, I’m excited to present 7-Eleven’s original liquid-filled Slurpee gum!<\/p>\n

Slurpee bubblegum was unveiled in 1998 and along with Slurpee-branded ice pops<\/a> (which preceded them by two months), they were the first food extensions to ever receive the Slurpee name.\u00a0 [Note: 7-Eleven introduced the Slurpee to consumers in 1966.]<\/p>\n

Launching with two flavors, blue raspberry and cherry, Slurpee gum was solely a liquid-filled gum at first.<\/p>\n

Those first two flavors would soon be joined by at least one other, a sour-apple offering:<\/p>\n

Over the course on the following years, the brand would get a minor packaging update and the liquid-filled lineup would be joined by “fizz powder-filled” and two-flavor “Splitz-O” offerings.\u00a0 I have a trio of wrappers from this second wave of Slurpee gum:<\/p>\n

I’ve noted that these wrappers do not include standardized nutrition labeling (mandatory since 1993 here in the USA) – I’m not sure how these packages skirted that – but I hope to figure it out.<\/p>\n

This last wrapper I have is notable as it incorporated the 7-Eleven logo.<\/p>\n

Those are not the only variety of Slurpee gum flavors that were made during these initial two waves.\u00a0 Reviewing photos of my pal Jeff Nelson’s collection<\/a>, I found images of a watermelon and pineapple-orange flavor, as well as updated wrappers for blue raspberry and sour apple.\u00a0 Here they are:<\/p>\n

Sadly, 7-Eleven’s Slurpee gum wouldn’t last – though it would get one more swing of the bat with a relaunch as Slurpee-Infused liquid-filled gum in 2003-2004 – along with a fun set of mascots, too.\u00a0 I’ll be covering those tomorrow!<\/p>\n

For today, that’s everything on 7-Eleven’s original 1990’s Slurpee bubblegum!<\/p>\n
