&#8212; currently in consideration for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artprize.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">prestigious 2013 ArtPrize<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->I first met <a href=\"http:\/\/paulroussostudio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Rousso<\/a> earlier this year when he contacted me about my work in documenting candy packaging and about utilizing pieces from my collection for some of his upcoming art. \u00a0 Though we had our first conversations online, we would soon meet in New York City after I agreed to bring together and loan him an assortment of specific pieces he was seeking.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11033\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11033\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11033\" alt=\"Wrappers laid out after scanning\" src=\"http:\/\/www.collectingcandy.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/CC_Wrappers-laid-out-after-scanning.jpg\" width=\"1024\" height=\"732\" srcset=\"http:\/\/collectingcandy.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/CC_Wrappers-laid-out-after-scanning.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/collectingcandy.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/09\/CC_Wrappers-laid-out-after-scanning-300x214.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-11033\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wrappers laid out during my initial meeting with the artist.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>As I said at the top of today&#8217;s post, Paul Rousso is to my assessment a wildly artistic madman.\u00a0\u00a0 He has spent much of his recent efforts creating work based on his fascination and experience with paper, and utilizing blow torches to do so.\u00a0 To wit:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jY4V0LnusmM?rel=0\" height=\"360\" width=\"640\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And while he might be a mad genius, Paul is also a charismatic and gracious conversationalist as we had a riotous time discussing art, design, nostalgia, the struggles of life and our mutual fascination with paper &#8211; is candy packaging being appreciated not just as consumer culture but as pop art &#8211; and I&#8217;ve long appreciated them in that way.\u00a0 And that&#8217;s been one of the most exciting and unexpected directions that my hobby has taken me in.<\/p>\n<p>Not only have I gotten to work with and get to know an artist whose work I admire, but in working with <a href=\"http:\/\/paulroussostudio.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Paul Rousso<\/a> I&#8217;ve developed a kinship and camaraderie that I hope and expect will last the rest of my days.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_11047\" style=\"width: 730px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-11047\" class=\"size-full wp-image-11047\" alt=\"&quot;November 1st&quot;
